Innovative Mentorship Program for High School Black Students

Mentorship is a crucial aspect of a student's growth and development, especially for underrepresented communities. ELEVATE CAMP recognizes this importance and has created an innovative mentorship program specifically designed for high school Black students.

Founded by the Canadian Youth of East Africa in 2019, ELEVATE CAMP goes beyond traditional mentorship programs by offering a virtual/in-person Career Awareness & Mentorship Program for Black high school students. In addition to career planning workshops and case competitions for high school students, the program also provides various youth development programs and workshops.

One significant achievement of ELEVATE CAMP is its partnership with the Toronto District School Board in 2021. This partnership has enabled the program to reach and positively impact a larger number of students. With a focus on showcasing representation in diverse career fields, ELEVATE CAMP aims to connect Black and other persons of color as mentors to high school students. By doing so, the program not only provides guidance but also inspires and empowers students to pursue their dreams in any field they choose.

Through individual career planning sessions, career awareness programs, and mentorship seminars, ELEVATE CAMP has successfully worked with over 100 high school students and engaged with more than 60 young Black professionals. The program also emphasizes the importance of building solutions to global challenges, fostering collaboration among students, providing mentorship opportunities, and introducing concepts of entrepreneurship. Overall, ELEVATE CAMP is not just a mentorship program; it is a catalyst for change, empowerment, and growth in the lives of Canadian high school students. By bridging the gap between students and professionals, the program is shaping the future leaders of tomorrow and making a significant impact on the community.
